The twist, when Simon Fier is all like 'Oh by the way I hope you don't mind but I've been killing your suitors with dark magic so that I can marry you,' and Angelica laughs and is like, 'oh, please, that's adorable, you did nothing sweetie, I killed them both with my ACTUAL dark arts, which I've been studying my entire life, but this makes me think that we'll be perfect for each other,' and then it turns out he already killed her father, and then it turns out that she didn't pour them wine, she poured them blood? Angelica is the only iconic dark arts Queen. Update, October 2019: Have to add that Angelica is my hero. And it's a classic of my childhood (strangely enough) that will never get old. It's creepy enough to be interesting but not actually scare scare me.

And sure, it's low-grade horror- it's vaguely predictable (although that's probably mostly because of how many times I've read it before), sometimes kind of silly, and not the creepiest I've ever read. So for this Christmas, I asked for a used copy off of Amazon, and I am proud to say that it's exactly as I remembered it.
